Drift driver onboarding in Curaçao opens on November 1, 2026. Riders start booking on December 1, 2026. That gives you a month to register, get verified and be ready to earn from the first day — which happens to be the start of the island's busiest season.
This guide covers what you need, how sign-up works, how payouts run, and when the demand actually is.
Why the timing matters
December through April is high season on Curaçao. Cruise ships, high-season flights into Hato, full hotels in Jan Thiel and Pietermaai. Registering in November means you're approved and driving through the busiest months rather than waiting them out.
What you need to be approved

- A bank account for weekly payouts
- A smartphone that can run the Drift app
Your vehicle
- Current vehicle registration
- Insurance in force
- A roadworthy, clean vehicle with four doors, working seatbelts and working air conditioning
If your vehicle is registered to someone else, you'll need documented authorisation from the owner to use it for passenger transport.
How sign-up works
- Download the app — Drift from Google Play or the App Store, then choose "Drive with Drift".
- Create your driver account — register with your phone number, verify by SMS, add your personal details.
- Upload your documents — licence, vehicle registration, insurance certificate and ID. Photograph them in good light with all four corners visible; unreadable uploads are the main cause of delay.
- Add your vehicle and payout details — make, model, year, colour, plate, photos of the car, and your bank account.
- Get verified — our team reviews everything before approval. You'll be notified in the app when you're cleared to go online.
How you get paid
Every trip carries an upfront fare calculated on distance and time, quoted to the rider in Antillean guilders before they book. You see the trip and your earnings before you accept it.
Payouts run weekly, straight to your bank account. Riders pay by card in the app, so there's no cash in the car and no change to make. Every trip appears in your earnings history with a full breakdown.

Where and when the demand is
- Hato Airport (CUR) — arrivals and departures, day and night, following flight schedules rather than traffic
- Cruise days — Mathey Wharf and Mega Pier, concentrated demand in tight windows
- Pietermaai and Salinja evenings — restaurants and nightlife running late, especially Thursday to Sunday
- Jan Thiel and Mambo Beach — resort and beach-club runs through the day
- Willemstad commuter traffic — Punda and Otrobanda in the morning and late afternoon
- Westpunt beach trips — longer weekend runs to Grote Knip and Playa Kalki
You choose when you drive. No shifts, no quotas, no minimum hours — go online when you want work and offline when you don't.
Language
The Drift app is in English, and our Curaçao support team covers English, Dutch, Papiamentu and Spanish. You don't need to speak all four to drive — riders' destinations come through as addresses and map pins, not conversation.
Safety works both ways
Riders are verified too, and you see who you're picking up before you accept. Every trip is GPS-logged end to end, support runs 24/7, and there's an emergency button in the driver app that escalates immediately. Cashless payment means nobody has reason to think you're carrying money.
Trip records also protect you if a rider disputes what happened.
Common questions
Do I need a taxi licence to drive with Drift?
You need a valid Curaçao driver's licence, properly registered and insured vehicle, and government ID. If local requirements for passenger transport change ahead of launch, we'll update this guide and notify registered drivers directly — we won't activate anyone into a position that puts their vehicle or licence at risk.
Can I drive someone else's car?
Yes, provided the vehicle is properly registered and insured and you have documented authorisation from the owner.
How long does approval take?
Usually a few days once all documents are uploaded and legible.
Can I drive part-time?
Yes. Most Drift drivers do. There are no minimum hours and no penalty for driving only evenings, only weekends, or only cruise days.
Do I need a separate app for driving?
No. The Drift app carries both modes — ride as a passenger and drive from the same account.
